DESCRIPTION:Register Here \n  \nCAFO’s IN WISCONSIN and OUR WATER \nCAFOs\, or Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations\, need a lot of water — and so do we! CAFOs have expanded in Wisconsin — from under 50 CAFOs 30 years ago to more than 300 today. How does the more concentrated and industrialized dairy industry affect our surface and groundwater\, and what is and is not being done throughout our state to regulate and enforce nutrient runoff and manure spills into our waterways? \nQuestions\, discussion\, and networking time to follow the presentation. \nThis presentation will be a preview for similar water related topics presented at our 2nd annual Educational Symposium on September 14\, 2023\, 3:30PM – 5:30PM \nLocation: Mitchell Park Domes Lobby \nCost: Includes Domes admission: Enjoy access to the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory at sunset. $12 Milwaukee Domes Alliance members; $15 general admission. Youth 12-15 are welcome with an adult supervisor. \nPresentation by Tom Mortensen\, PLA\, ASLA – Site Planner / Landscape Architect\, raSmith \nTom Mortensen has over 35 years of experience in site design\, landscape architecture and related design and construction professions. \nTom has given presentations throughout the region at various conferences and events on topics pertaining to site design\, master planning\, rainfall integration / green infrastructure\, water quality and site development. Since 2011\, he has been teaching a class at the UWM School of Continuing Education in the Water Technology Certification program on the topic of green infrastructure and using native landscape and site design for more resilient management of rainfall on sites.
